Book - The Dirty Duck

Utterly preposterous, annoying book. No realistic motive at all, revenge of the psychopathic computer nerd?! Smuggling a "sleeping" child in plain sight on the Concorde? Exceedingly gruesome deaths not typical of these fluffy light series but more appropriate for Cornwell's books instead.

TV - Maigret et La Nuit du Carrefour

Counts as my French lesson, yay. Watched the entire movie this afternoon. Ok, really predictable, but still better done than a lot of others.

Tea with D

Instead of going to the CV Book Club, had a very relaxing evening chatting with a friend at her place tonight. She's always got the best cookies.

Camellias & Orchids

Couple things started blooming - this is a gorgeous Nuccio's Pearl:

And a couple orchids, Showgirl and Unknown, slightly slug-eaten:

Hedges

A little break in all the rain, actually pretty and sunny, so ran out to do a little yardwork.

Finished trimming the hedge on the left, and mostly trimmed off the right side one. Not fully finished, but at least it doesn't look out of control. Trimmed off the crabapples too, and it looks a lot tidier. Wish I'd done it before.

TV - Persuasion

Ohhhh, a romantic chick-flick fest! Caught a bit of it on YouTube, and am gaga over RPJ. The library DVD came in, and ohhh, he is soooo hot. Saw that 1 minute Spooks clip too, where he is definitely practically all hanging out. The movie guy described him as "sex on legs", very apt.

Too bad the movie really underused him, he's just sullen-looking and stone most of the time, and it doesn't seem like it's his fault, because he can act in Spooks, from what I saw. The chick really bothered me, her mouth's open all the time, and plain looking - the book says she's quite a pretty girl, and gets prettier as she goes on with all the fresh air, etc. Good actress, though. NO chemistry between the 2 of them, disappointing. But whatever, it's still a cute little movie, and I'll take it over the other drivel any day.

TV - Pride and Prejudice

DVD came in! Yay! Watched 2x already! Yay! Wonderful romantic chick-flick! Yay! LOVE Firth! Yay!

Mozart's discovered his voice

Mozart has started to use his voice! Over the last couple months, he's been increasingly chirping while running around, and calling out when he wants my attention. Only problem is when he calls it sounds like he's crying in distress, so it's a little disturbing at first. But it's still all so adorable.

French and Yardwork

Since I wrote down about the practice slack-off yesterday, I remembered it today. Got 2 French lessons in. Not only that, I did some yard work today! Got the right side hedges trimmed, and part of one of the front hedges done.

REALLY gusty tonight, like shaking the house and slamming against the windows. Still waiting for that Pride and Prejudice DVD, a Prime Suspect came in. Caught the rest of it on YouTube, but still want to see it on bigger screen. Caught the latest Persuasion too, liked it a lot.

Having a very good hair day today.

Languages - Slacking Off

With the crisis last month, all the uproar, and the sister drama now, I've been slacking off with the practice!! Not done any lessons since middle of Jan. Must get back on the ball.

TV - Pride and Prejudice

Just saw part 1 of the PBS series, and I love it. Already liked Colin Firth from Bridget's Jones Diary, where he reprises the role. This version is closer to the book, and it appeals to me more than the ultra blinking Darcy (still cute) in the newest movie version. Even though historically the younger kids are more accurate, being older, I appreciate a older portrayal. Anticipating my copy from the library, since I can't wait for the rest of the installments on TV.

African Statue Shelf

Finally put this up after yrs - literally. The kitties kept knocking them down from the other shelves, and Ginza likes chewing the hair off the Thinkers, so I tried to put them up higher on their own shelf. Aesthetically looked more cohesive with a grouping too, I thought.

Probs: 5 holes, and missed a stud every time, too lazy to get the studfinder. Didn't think it'd be a problem - didn't count on Pixie jumps. So she might just rip this thing off the wall.

They're nothing special, just cheap buys from big-box stores, but I love them. This one's a favorite:

Book Club - Murder with Peacocks

Funny cute book, loved the eccentric family. Silly and fun cotton candy. Fun meeting too. Had a bunch of laughs, though fewer members, some off manning election booths.
