This was so incredibly contrived, it belongs in one of those Cirque du Soleil productions. A few pages in, cut to the first scene with the wife, and you've already figured it out. Come on! I wouldn't have even bothered finishing it if it weren't for the fact that I really enjoy the Harry Bosch character, and he still works well in the book.
A doctor gets killed execution style at the top of Mulholland. His wife is hog-tied in their bedroom. Some scary chemicals got stolen from the hospital where he worked. National security may be at stake. Enter Homeland dept. Bosch is intent on not letting them muscle him out from what to him is basically a homicide.
