Taste In Art Quiz

Cute little quiz, lots of nice works. Like these. Got it off Miz Minka's blog. Even conveniently has the relevant code to copy and paste, like below. Nice.

Your result for What Your Taste in Art Says About You Test...

Extroverted, Progressive, and Intelligent

20 Cubist, -15 Islamic, 3 Ukiyo-e, -7 Impressionist, 4 Abstract and -24 Renaissance!

Cubism was a 20th century avant-garde movement, pioneered by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. It revolutionized European art and inspired changes in music and literature. The first branch of cubism, known as Analytic Cubism. It was both radical and influential as a short but highly significant art movement between 1908 and 1911 mainly in France. In its second phase, Synthetic Cubism, (using synthetic materials in the art) the movement spread and remained vital until around 1919.

People that chose Cubist paintings as their favorite art form tend to be very individualized people. They are more extroverted and less afraid of speaking their opinions then other people. They tend to be progressive and are very forward thinking. As the cubist painting is like looking into a shattered mirror where you can see different angles of the images, the people that prefer these paintings like looking at all angles of a problem. These people are intelligent and they are the transformers of our generation. They look beyond what is seen into what things could become. They are ready to leave the ideas of the past behind and look at what the future has to offer.

New Claw Hole In Pullover

Yup. Got another hole just now while working on the computer. Courtesy of Ginza, reaching up to grab my arm and get my attention. Until I wised up, I was getting holes in all my clothes. A couple pairs of favorite pants have multiple holes in them.

Now I have at-home 'kitty' clothing and outside 'non-kitty' clothing.

Another clothing-related lesson early on was - no black colors. When I have to wear dark colors, I have to wait until the last possible moment to put it on. Sometimes I forget when I'm saying bye to them, and picked them up to hug, necessitating much lint rolling. LOL.

TV - The Tudors

Season 1. Not bad. Certainly very entertaining. Griped for a while about how NOT Henry this Henry was, but got over that, since it is just a fiction show, with a sprinkling of historical fact.

A true measure of the show's success - HUBBY, yes, Hubby really liked it, actually wanted to see it, and wanted to continue seeing it. This is a guy who can't stand anything that even whiffs of Elizabethan-y.

So we're in cyberline at the library for the next season.

Babysitting

Went over to see L, and watched the baby while she took a nap. Awww, such a cute little girl. Luckily she slept right thru too, so I was just holding her and watching TV.

Picked up a few used books, nothing special. Had a quick drop-in to the dentist, but couldn't find the source of the pain - again. Verrrrry irritating, as it's hurting more and more.

Red Jazz, Didier Lourenco

I have lots of art decor that's mass produced, but it doesn't detract from how pretty it is. Darned, all the pics aren't coming out great, camera is failing, and lots of noise showing up.

This guy was really popular several years ago, lots of his stuff showed up everywhere, including Target. We LOVE this piece, which is pretty good quality - beautiful wood frame, nice faux canvas. Got it from Costco maybe 6 years ago.

Little Shopping, Little Lunch - Fun Day Today

Decided to go see what Macy's had on sale. The answer: not much. Most of it crap. Got a sweater, and cream embroidered throw-over that will hopefully go over most of my black dresses. Couple pairs of mules. One I think will work well for traveling.

Cheesecake Factory for lunch, got the usual. Yummy. Was in a very good mood. Hubby thought my purchases were very cute.

Only cried a little bit at night.

TV - La Patience de Maigret

Not bad. The girlfriend - wow, now she's hot. Hell of a figure, nice legs she flashes at Maigret at the end.

Wheel-chaired felon that Maigret's been trying to put away for years gets shot to death in his apartment. Turns out to be his girlfriend's lover/facing neighbor who wanted to get ahead by taking over as crime head after whacking Manuel. Has very preggers wife, no less. Dovetails with parallel story of jewelry heist which claims the life of a cop, so enormous pressure on the department to solve it.

Movie - Kung Fu Panda

Hilarious, light fare. Very cute cartoon, although the animation isn't as nice as, say, Wall-E. The chopsticks scene just cracked me up. 'You are free to eat. Enjoy!'

Hubby didn't really care for the movie.

Cute Baby!

Awww, after picking up Hubby, and determining that his jetlag wasn't too bad, finally dropped by L's to see the baby. She's so cute, was really nice holding her. Very happy to hand her back to her Mommy, though.

Book - Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil

Oh, what a wonderful book!! I thoroughly enjoyed carousing with all the fantastically eccentric characters and beautiful city. At least the areas the writer stuck to. An excellent window into glimpsing multiple facets of a bit of that city and its people.

I really felt like a mint julep, and almost...only almost...wanted to speak with a drawl.

The movie really didn't do it any justice at all. Doesn't detract from the watching, though, it was fine on its own. Just that the book brought so much more in the telling.

Movie - Casino Royale

Watched it again, wow, is the man seriously cut. Major workouts for the role.

Meh, was ok. Definitely could have used a lot of editing. But still works overall. Didn't care for the lead Bond girl, not that hot. Now the first woman riding the white horse - HOLY SHIT. Gorgeous.

Art Book - Hiroshige, 100 Famous Views of Edo

WSJ recommendation, but doesn't detract. Definitely a 'coffee table book' even though this isn't going anywhere near the coffee table, as it would be under threat from kitty nails. Had ordered it before Bubby passed, so when it came, I didn't bother opening it for a while. Love it so much, even made my first Amazon review. LOL.

"Gorgeous, stunning large-scale book, and an excellent addition to any art book collection - or for the coffee table. Perfect reference companion for reading with other in-depth Hiroshige books. Softcover with traditional rope binding. Protected in a silk hardcover folding case fastened by faux ivory clasps. My pics hopefully show better than my description. The detailing - binding, paper quality, plates - is exquisite. Colors and images are precise. Complete collection of FULL-PLATE UNCROPPED prints with museum-like blurbs, succinct but fairly informative, (and a wee bit snarky in places) on the opposite page in English, German, and French. Brief introductory overview with zoomed-in detailing of selected prints. Brings back nice memories for us, having seen some of these prints on display during our visit to the Ota Memorial Museum in Nov 2008."

New Family Dynamics

It's sad to see that Kayla's getting along better with the others now that Mozart's gone, like - yay, there's one less and life is better now. I'm a bit resentful of Kayla for that. It's an irrational feeling. I know it's not true, I don't have any clue to what the cat is thinking, and I'm just projecting my interpretation. I feel bad for thinking it. But there it is.

Previously, Kayla hated anyone sleeping anywhere within 10 feet of her - she would hiss, leave and relocate elsewhere. She would NEVER have allowed anyone else this close to her before:

From Kitties

This one was stunning, since Kayla dislikes Pixie the most. She hisses at Pixie anytime she gets near, invading her 'personal space' (defined as the entire house, really).

Movie - The Devil Wears Prada

Ok, so I don't get girly-girls. And I'm pretty impatient with chick flicks. But in keeping with the thawing on that front, I've actually tolerated a fair number of them over the last year, and they haven't gotten on my nerves too much. Some I even like. This was one of them.

Playing on TV the other night, not bad. It's funny enough, and Meryl Streep made the movie. Was flipping around the stations, and got to her when she was interviewing the girl, and I got hooked. She was so freaking funny. Odd, since I haven't liked any of her other movies. Not a fan. But this one was good.

First Bowling Practice

So on Tuesday, on a whim decided to drop by the bowling place and ask about joining a league. Left my name and number with the really nice helpful front desk guy.

Got a call yesterday from someone with a Tuesday league. Will try it. Today had discounted games, so bowled a couple games. Fun. Boy, I suck. 101, then 93. But he said there were wide ranges from under 100 to over 200, so hope it'll work out.

Also dropped by Loehmann's. Place has really gone downhill. I didn't go there much, but my younger sister loved the place, and I'd treat her to shopping sprees there. Hadn't been there in a couple years, but decided on another whim to check it out. There's very little merchandise in the place! Whole shelves were empty, a lot of the racks were gone, which made for a very empty looking store.

Good Day Today

Wanted to stay in all day, but ended up dragging myself out to Target and the vacuum store to pick up the replacement belts for the Hoover (P.O.S.!!!!!) Even got some takeout before heading home. Mood much improved after the outing, glad I went out.

First, the vacuum: we have a 6 yr old Hoover bagged Windtunnel, and I hated this thing from the day I got it. It is cheap, it's horrifically loud, but without much suction, and it is very heavy. The first month one of the buttons broke off it with just light push from me, then the self-propel started malfunctioning 4 mths later (the motor started burning), so I had to switch that off and go manual.

The nicest vacuum guy (he and his wife run the store) spent a good 15 minutes demonstrating a couple of vacuums for me, and I fell in love with the Miele Tango. After doing some product research and price comparisons on it, I will go buy one from him. It's one hell of an expensive vacuum, but I've tried out enough of them to know this one's worth paying for.

Then some practicalities from Target, including some Aveeno cleanser and face cream.

OK Day Today

Overwhelming grief didn't completely paralyze me. Did a few loads of laundry yesterday. Got some papers read.

Was up and out today. Sunscreen and moisturizer. Did some very needed clothes shopping at the Rack. Got 8 sweater tops at excellent prices, and the cutest pair of mahogany flower boots for which I have nothing to wear with, but nevertheless....

Reading Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil. Entertaining. A very needed distraction right now.

Finally figured out how to underline something. Woohoo.

Unexpected surprise: Amazon order came early today, instead of Friday. Yay. Simpsons 11 (absolutely last purchase), 2 books on India, 2 books on China. If I felt normal, I'd be very excited.

Sunny Day

Really beautiful day, unseasonably sunny. Extremely windy. Opened the windows to air the house, but bracing for an onslaught of allergies.

Today's Catnip - Pixie Owns The Bed

Usually when Hubby's OOT, Pixie takes over his side of the bed, and it works out fine. Last night, though, Pixie decides she wants my side of the bed, and squeezes in next to me, practically hanging off the edge of the bed. This is a funny sight for a large chublet.

Over the course of the night, unknown to a sleeping me, she gradually took over my side of the bed. This morning I woke up to find myself practically over on Hubby's side, with Pixie laying length-wise across my side, her hind legs pushing at my butt to keep me moved over. A small protesting 'nah!' when I dared disturb her by moving.

Today's Catnip - Ginza Wants Cuddles

How sweet - Ginza decides he wants cuddles, so he taps my arm, and just clambers up onto my lap while I was at the computer this morning. Then he lifts up his little face for chin scritches, looking at me adoringly. I love that expression.

It's such a darling thing he does - there's no shyness when he wants his pets - he just claws or climbs over whomever and whatever's in the way of 'his' lap.

Trying to Cope

It's been a miserable time. There were no holidays here, and most of it is one miserable blur. Been trying to cope as best we can, but trying to wrap our heads around the loss of our precious little boy is hard. Created a separate blog for our little guy at Mozart's Memorial, where I could pour out these feelings and memories of our most special little boy in the world.

Reconstructing and backdating a bunch of stuff I did over that time.

SFMOMA And CPK

Hubby stuck in the City all day, but had lunch free, great! Popped into MOMA for a quick look around, paused by my favorite pieces. Had a nice lunch at the very chic-chic looking pizza place right the next block. Almost tempted to drop by the orchid place, but didn't.

TV - Scene of The Crime: Without A Trace

Real name is Tatort, the long running German series. This one had Behrendt and Dietmar Bar. Really liked them both.

Pretty good story line, a bit overdramatic and contrived, but still very entertaining. Guy gets kidnapped in bed at night with his wife. Ends up with a bomb strapped to him, must rob bank. Guy is above suspicion, as he's very wealthy. Entire thing carried out with military precision. The bank robbery that the cops witness turns out to be not really robbery. Was an elaborate setup by Guy to kill wife's lover - the bank manager. Lots of miscellany around the villian's role in covert ops, and serious interest in Japanese philosophy.

TV - Rebus

Loved Ken Stott and this series. Too bad it's over. Got them all from the library and did a marathon over the last few nights. Very good distraction. Hubby even enjoyed them. May update with the stories later.
