From Saturday's visit. I only got seven, all fragrant, of course. All the catts are blooming size and all have sheaths already. The phals are still babies, but Liese said one of them was already blooming size (yay), and the other two are about 2 years away. Can't wait.

Right Now - Oak Hill Gardens

Orchid Society picnicking right now. Lots of plants, already bought a bunch - shhhh, don't tell Hubby!

After the picnic: I was seriously freaking uber-miserable weather-wise. The goddamn mosquitoes were at me despite the spray - my face got bitten!?! The greenhouses were incredibly hot, and I didn't see any vent systems, but it was heaven strolling through their selections. I really enjoyed this visit so much more than Hausermann's, I have to say. They have a huge selection of species and compact catts, I found their set-up so easy to walk around (except the really narrow rows), shopper-friendly - there's pics so you don't have to guess or ask what the heck it's gonna look like, and Greg and Liese are just the nicest, friendliest, patient people around, happy to answer questions, however silly.

Finally - Hausermann Visit

Stopped at the front desk, asked for a quick tour, and a nice kid, Adam, took me around. Continuing the family tradition, nice.

Yesterday dropped by the Flower Mart to see what's new.  Apparently a shitload of cyms!  I restrained myself, and only got a couple dends and a phal.  Sweet.

Went to the Oakland orchid show on Sunday, nothing really tempted *gasp*!!!  Had a fun chat with couple other women, and the Botanico guy, who was just as nice as ever.  Must schedule a visit!

My gripe with the show, as it is every time I visit, is that it has the most unfriendly bunch of Orchid Society members I've bumped into.  Night and day from the San Jose group.  No one smiles, everyone ignores you, and the checkers at the door don't even greet you.  How freaking hard is it to say "Hi" or "Bye"??  That's the least that I do when I'm volunteering.  They're obviously capable of friendliness, since they're real nice to each other.  Doesn't make me want to beat a path to join up.

Anyway, enough of that nonsense.

OMG OMG OMG these are absolutely stunning.  They're so fragrant.  I'm so in love.  I've been staring at them all day.  There was only one left after I'd bought my 2 at $25 each, now I wish I'd bought that too.

Oncidium Twinkle 'CT Yellow'

Very fragrant.  This is the cutest little guy!  And I mean little.  It's in a 3" pot, only 10" tall from pot base!  Departure from the monster Sharry Babies.

Here they were getting bought at the Gold Country Orchids booth.  My other buy next to it is a $7 Lc Tokyo Magic x C Little Dipper.  Also tiny, and already blooming size in a 2" pot!  The display was very fragrant.

Last Saturday's show. Was there bright and early at 10am opening to make sure I didn't miss anything.  Very glad I did, as several times I got almost the last of the ones I bought!  Chatted with several really nice people, don't remember their names.  One was a really lovely couple who were AOS judges, and pointed me to the Darwinaras, which I am VERY grateful for!

Andy's Orchids. Andy was manning the booth. Felt bad, didn't find anything I wanted to buy from him, even though I searched really hard. It was the most crowded booth in the whole place, though, so that's great.

Seed Engei booth.  Nicest saleslady.  Had more stuff that was affordable this time, so I was able to pick up another sederia, $15, and couple of neofinetias for $20, all out of bloom.

Came for a pick-me-up, didn't quite do the job, but did manage to walk away with 6 more orchids. Bad bad girl. Popped into McLellan's, found a couple blptms that were just too killer to pass up, $8 ea. All fragrant!! I noticed a surfeit of zygopetalums in each store I visited. How neat.

Orchidholic, previously shown by mobile, nicer pic with the new camera. There's another full wall of orchids to the right of the pic, as well as another corridor down the back. Daniel isn't there weekends, but the salesgirl was kinda nice too. Picked up 3 fragrant phals and one fading zygo on the salesrack for $5 each.

Both bollopetalums Midnight Blue 'Cardinal's Roost' (another typo, says bolopetalum. Grrr. Did I mention I hate typos?!) Fell in love with this color, came out pretty accurately in the pics.
